Are golden doodles a pedigreed breed?
Written by Stefany SandersAlthough golden doodles are bred from pedigreed golden retrievers and pedigreed standard poodles, they are not American Kennel Club recognized at this time. The breed standards have been established and verification of true breeding is in process. However, AKC requires 16 documented generations of successful breeding from diverse pedigreed blood lines to accept the petition for breed pedigree. The breed is just too new to have established this documentation.
Do golden doodles take special care as poodles do?
Written by Stefany SandersGolden doodles are the most easy going and carefree dogs we have ever owned. They only need to be groomed 2 or 3 times a year to thin their undercoat. We usually do that at the end of winter and again in the middle of summer. They eat straight Purina dog kibbles with excellent growth, health and digestive results. They are easy to train for indoor manners, obedience, agility and especially search and rescue. They are very sociable, but also content to be left by themselves for several hours at a time. They are gentle with children and never aggressive or vicious. They are easy pets and great ranch hand dogs. They love to work as well as play.
What do the F1 and F2 titles mean?
Written by Stefany SandersWhen a golden retriever and standard poodle are bred to produce first generation golden doodle puppies, the puppies are titled F1 and have equal parts golden retriever and standard poodle characteristics. When F1 golden doodle puppies are bred to produce a second generation of true golden doodles with equal parts golden retriever and standard poodle, they are titled F2. If more poodle qualities are required to produce nonshedding, hypoallegenic or intelligence qualities, a golden doodle F1 is bred with a full bred standard poodle and those puppies are titled F1b or first generation golden doodle bred back to poodle.
We currently have 2 adolescent F1 females. When they come into their second season they will be bred with standard poodle males of excellent conformation and ancestry. Their pups are expected to be very smart F2b, with very curly Teddy bear coats, long legs and excellent health. Keep watching the website for their arrival.
Why should I choose a golden doodle rather than a pure bred standard poodle?
Written by Stefany SandersI truly am a standard poodle lover. They are so smart, and so clean, and so loyal and loving. They are beautiful to watch as they run and cavort. They are very healthy and do not have the problems of the toy and miniature varieties. However, poodles require more grooming than golden doodles. They also are a bit more high strung and require more human attention. Also, many people have an aversion to poodles based on the show cut that is seen in professional dog shows. Golden doodles have a true dog's good looks. Their color is golden to ruddy. Their coats are soft, wavy and luxurious. Their heads are large and hansome accentuated with big black eyes that shine with love and intelligence. And, of course they have the cleanliness and hypoallergenic qualities of their poodle ancestors.
